SAM offerings

Deloitte offers a range of services to help organisations deal with the recession. For IT departments in particular, a range of IT asset management related services can help to turn threat into advantage, by helping IT management and the IT business to obtain better control of IT assets, to help control risks and to facilitate better cost control. Services provided by Deloitte include:

SAM health check

Basic check-up of an organisation’s ability to manage its software assets, together with an assessment of related exposures in the areas of security, cost control and license compliance. Assessments of risk and return will rsult in recommendations for achieving quick wins and on-going wins. A SAM health check will typically take between 1 day and 1 week, depending on the size of the organisation.

SAM outsourcing health check

Check-up of an organisation’s arrangements with a current or proposed outsourcer for issues related to SAM, with an emphasis on the management of software licensing. The result is an assessment of exposures and how they can be addressed. A SAM outsourcing health check will typically take between 3 days and 2 weeks, depending on the size and complexity of what is being outsourced.

Licensing optimisation

A review of areas such as deployment, invoices and contracts, and licensing approaches will reveal ways that costs may be saved. The length of time taken for a licensing optimisation engagement depends on the areas covered and on the split of work between client and Deloitte personnel.

Software license compliance review

Verification of deployment versus entitlement for selected software vendors. The result is a reconciliation of license entitlements against software deployment, by software vendor, based on the applicable licensing metrics. Recommendations for improvement are also provided. A high-level review of major products for selected software vendors typically takes between 2 and 6 weeks, with the detailed requirements depending on the availability and quality of existing information and on the split of work between client and Deloitte personnel.

License management resourcing

Provision of personnel on a contractual basis to assist an organisation internally in functions related to SAM or software licensing. The ‘deliverable’ is an additional qualified person working directly as part of the organisation for a contractual amount of time per week or month, directly managed by the organisation but with monitoring by Deloitte.

Deloitte can also assist with in-depth projects related to security, asset management, and cost management ranging from diagnostic services through comprehensive implementation assistance.
