Deloitte not only goes to the market through its practice offerings (competencies) but also through its market segments. At Deloitte, we have divided the corporate market into nine industries, each led by an Industry Leader.
As a result, the industry dimension at Deloitte complements our practice approach, both in the way in which we go to the market and in the execution of our different service offerings. This ability to combine functional and technical skills with deep industry insight makes our value proposition to clients unique.
The Deloitte Aviation & Transport Services group encompasses aviation, rail, road (including postal services and parcel delivery) and water transportation sectors. Our aim is to bring together our industry expertise and multi-functional skills to better serve the clients in our industry. Our integrated team of professionals have the breadth of global industry experience complemented by local knowledge of tax, licensing, and legal and regulatory issues to address the needs of companies around the world.

When we talk about the consumer business industry we distinguish three different segments: retail, CPG (consumer packaged goods manufacturing) and THL (tourism, hospitality & leisure). Although these three segments are by nature quite different businesses, the economic downturn affects all of them, each in its own way.
Supported by its integrated service offering, Deloitte aims at navigating retail, CPG and THL companies through this economic bad weather by focusing on a number of business priorities (growth and revenue protection, cost reduction, and cash and capital). Our industry knowledge and integrated approach allow Deloitte to deliver a founded view on the client’s situation and define a targeted plan for execution, thereby impacting costs, cash flows, tax position, business portfolio, financing, etc.

The energy sector has been characterised, in Belgium and abroad, by a continuous internationalisation of the market players and a lot of activity in new energy segments, such as wind and solar energy production. While the electricity and gas sector are still led by the traditional market leaders, new players are entering as deregulation continues at a fast pace. Deloitte is very strong in this segment with significant audit presence, but also sees significant growth in advisory services.

The financial services industry (FSI) covers banks, insurance companies and investment managers, as well as transaction or message processing companies. FSI is an important, knowledge-intensive part of the Belgian economy.
To cope with current trends, financial services companies need access to a wide variety of skills in different domains. For example, product innovation and effective delivery channels require high quality service and flawless operational processes. Meanwhile, institutions must always monitor that they are adequately rewarded for taking on risk, within regulatory constraints.
To assist its financial services clients with these kinds of challenges, Deloitte provides a seamlessly integrated multidisciplinary practice, across borders if needed. With Belgian banks asserting themselves internationally, with new industry regulations like Solvency II on the horizon, and with financial product creation increasingly splitting from its distribution, these are very exciting times for the financial services industry.

The industry is tackling many challenges, which are further exacerbated with the current uncertain times. Declining R&D productivity and loss of exclusivity are definitely top issues on the agenda. Furthermore, in the context of decreasing government budgets for new drugs and pharmaceuticals, as well as increasing regulatory scrutiny, it becomes even more challenging for life sciences companies to get lead times between discovery and new drug launch within acceptable timeframes at acceptable costs. Meanwhile, maximising revenue from in-line products is becoming increasingly critical.
Deloitte's Life Sciences & Healthcare team offers auditing, accounting, actuarial, and tax services to clients in all life sciences and health care sectors. Also available is a broad range of advisory services including strategic, regulatory, mergers and acquisitions, risk management, and management consulting.

The technology, media & telecommunications (TMT) segment includes players with a broad consumer base and a significant market share. To overcome difficult times, many TMT companies are exploring new revenue streams and cutting costs to offset the impact of reduced IT spending, lower advertising budgets, and tighter availability of capital.
The Deloitte global TMT community consists of 6,000 senior practitioners drawn from multiple disciplines and located in 45 countries. This network is well equipped to keep a finger on the pulse of developments as they unfold, provide insight to our clients, and develop resilient, profitable solutions together with them. The Belgian practice is an integral part of this community and calls upon the capabilities of other country teams to find the best solutions. It is also regularly consulted by the network in matters such as revenue assurance, customer relationship management, value added tax, etc.
