ITBB

For several years this study has examined the key themes changing the relationship between IT and the Business. Developed by a multidisciplinary team of Deloitte specialists within Enterprise Risk Services, Consulting and Tax, the survey covers such topics as IT management trends, outsourcing and safety, and privacy and fraud challenges. Taking part in the survey are respondents from both the IT sector and business, across virtually all sectors and in a number of countries.

About the survey

Alignment & Balance

Alignment between IT and business is often referred to as a key success factor for IT to deliver business value – getting IT in line with the business priorities is a necessity. Yet, beyond aligning, “balancing” is also of importance to manage IT: finding the right equilibrium between the different stakeholders of technology-related decision making – IT on the one hand, and “the business” on the other, that is to say the non-IT departments. As a matter of fact, this balance is often not considered, let alone achieved – in fact, the topic seldom gets the attention it deserves.

Nearly global initiative

The “IT business balance survey” is an initiative launched by Deloitte in 2007, aimed at investigating the evolution of the relationship between business and IT around key topics of technology decision-making: evolutions and trends, IT management, IT governance, IT (out)sourcing, and security, privacy and fraud. The survey comprises around 30 questions, evenly spread over the five main topics covered, and is filled in on-line or manually by IT and business respondents of prominent organisations, from a broad range of industries (both private and public sector).

Led by the Belgian firm, the survey on IT business balance is now a “nearly global” initiative: the 2009 edition covers 28 countries across the globe, with representation from the Americas (Canada, Central and South America), EMEA (Benelux, France, Germany, Italy, Central European countries, etc) and Asia-Pacific

Objective

The objective of this survey is dual:

  • To get a clearer picture of the IT business balance and its evolution across countries and industries, so that it is possible to get some insights into what is changing, and why.
  • To provide companies with a reference point, to position themselves and to act accordingly.
