VAT Alert (21/12/2012)

New legislation on invoicing published - tax authorities provide transitional measures on tax point changes

The new VAT legislation on invoicing rules has been published today (Belgian Official Gazette), but the tax authorities officially announced yesterday that the application of the new tax point rules will be postponed (Decision n° E.T. 123.563 of 19 December 2012, in Dutch and in French).

Belgian companies will still be able to apply the “old” VAT rules regarding the tax point during the entire year of 2013. From a practical point of view, this means in general that you do not have to change your advance invoicing method and VAT reporting before 2013.
