Day 5 - What goes on behind closed doors?

Cycling Event 2012 - South Andalusia

Details

From: Lejaron

To: Roquetas de Mar

Distance: 142 km

Weather: Sunny, no wind, 35°C

Yesterday Frank’s spouse An, Piet’s spouse Rita, and André’s spouse Inge visited us. We therefore especially observed the performance of these three gentlemen today. Piet scored well, but yet slightly less than he did on Tuesday. André found his performance much stronger, but one way or another he could hide this very well, while Frank was clearly worse than before. We do not know what went on behind closed doors, but we believe to have provided the scientific proof that contact with your partner during big sport events has a bad influence on your performance or … we could just be jealous.

Our Deloitte Luxembourg partner Yves invited all of us for dinner yesterday evening in one of the better restaurants in the old town of Granada, the Mirador de Morayma. We had a superb panoramic view and I do not mean of the waitress, but of the Alhambra, another piece of art.  A view directly out of the tales of One Thousand and One Nights. Thanks Yves, you are my friend for life.

Serge Baguet did not join us today. Guess what we had for lunch, baguettes? No, tapas and other local delicacies in a typical Spanish restaurant run by three Thai ladies, because we “forgot” the pre-ordered lunch boxes.  Especially Sasikan, Rony’s  Thai spouse,  enjoyed the feast, because a whole week without Thai food is hard to bear. I’ll do my best to forget the lunch boxes again tomorrow.

It was a day full of disaster. Broken bicycle chains, faulty GPS devices or Rolf not able to interpret the information on his screen, flat tires and other mechanical defects. With two flat tires today and three during the whole week Sven is clearly aiming at a place on the stage. Needless to say, this tsunami of champagne (or cava, we are after all in Spain) is taking its toll. Therefore, spouses please treat your husband’s gently when they come back home, they deserve it.
