SOS Children’s Villages

The primary activity of this global organisation is setting up and running safe and caring villages for orphans and other children lacking a real home. We provide ongoing support for two SOS Children's Villages projects.

One, in Belgium, is the Leaving Care Project, set up with SOS Children's Village Chantevent in Bande. It helps young people make the transition from Village to young adult life. Deloitte pays for training, living expenses and visits from social and educational specialists. The second project is in Rwanda, at the SOS Technical High School Kigali. It offers nearly 200 students training in accountancy, computer science, electricity and carpentry.  Deloitte subsidises 30 young people for a period of six years so they can complete their education.

In January 2013, Deloitter Yves Mutiganda traveled to Kigali, Rwanda to give on-the-spot accountancy training to teachers and children of the SOS technical school. Yves looks back on a great experience: ‘It’s great to see and feel the motivation of the students. Despite their young age, they want to get the most out of their learning experience. The relevant questions of the teachers showed that they were dedicated and eager to learn.’ You can find out more about Yves’ mission on our corporate responsibility blog.
