National Greenhouse & Energy Reporting Act

Are you ready?

The Australian Government is serious about the risk of climate change and has announced the introduction of a so-called ‘cap & trade’ scheme by mid 2011, whereby Australia will become a carbon constrained economy resulting in real and actual business costs from carbon emissions.

To make this scheme work, robust reporting of carbon emissions is required.  As of 1 July 2008, companies that meet or exceed set emissions or energy thresholds are required to measure their greenhouse gas emissions. Failure to register by 31 August 2009 and report appropriately by 31 October 2009 may lead to serious penalties. Key questions for you to clarify:

  • Have you established the relevant reporting boundaries?
  • Have you calculated your carbon footprint?
  • Do you meet the reporting thresholds – are you obliged to report?
  • Do you have confidence that your data collection, calculation and reporting processes live up to the mandatory requirements?

Or in other words: Are you ready to report greenhouse gas emissions and comply with the regulation?
Deloitte can help you if you’re not sure whether you are ready. See attached brochure*for more information

*This brochure is designed as a trifold so for best print results please select A3 paper, double-sided print, and flip on short side. Then, with page 2 facing up, fold the right hand 3rd of the page inwards and repeat with the left hand 3rd.
