Annual financial benchmarking survey for Australian wine industry

Vintage 2005

Deloitte Wine industry benchmark survey 2005

Welcome to the seventh annual financial benchmarking study of the Australian wine industry conducted by Deloitte in conjunction with the Winemakers’ Federation of Australia, examining the financial performance of wineries located across Australia for the 2005 year.

Survey results
The 2005 survey results highlight that the profitability for wineries with less than $1m of revenue has improved significantly from last years’ survey results. This may be driven by an increase in other revenue (which represents 19.1% of revenue) and this year includes the Wine Equalisation Tax Commonwealth Producer rebate (‘WET rebate’).

The profitability of wineries in the $1–5m category has fallen from 8.0% of revenue in 2004 to 2.7% of revenue in 2005 as competition intensifies in domestic and export markets.

The survey provides the Australian wine industry with key financial performance measures, which we hope will assist wine enterprises with strategies to survive, prosper and achieve best practice.

We hope the results of the survey continue to assist wineries better understand their relative financial position and identify opportunities for future profit growth.
