31 May 2013: Longstanding Deloitte Chairman of eight years Wayne Goss retired from professional services firm Deloitte on May 31, and has been replaced by senior partner Keith Jones, who stepped down from his roles as Office Managing Partner for WA and leader of the firm’s E&R industry group, to take up the non-executive role.

Former Queensland premier Wayne Goss has been national chairman of Deloitte since 2005, having also worked as a managing partner of Deloitte’s Queensland Office from 2000.

He will be officially replaced by Mr Jones, who was also a member of the Deloitte Australia Board as well as leading the firm’s China Services Group in Australia, roles he has now stepped down from.

Keith Jones said: “In what has been a challenging and volatile business environment, Wayne Goss’ tenure as Chairman of Deloitte over the last eight years, has built a very different professional services organisation under the leadership of CEO Giam Swiegers.

“While I believe we are well positioned to help our clients respond to the rapidly evolving business landscape, the challenge will be to keep our partners focussed on the key issues, while maintaining the organisational agility so critical for success in today’s market,” he said.

Wayne Goss is credited with creating a robust culture on the Deloitte Board and ensuring that Deloitte has a strong leadership succession plan with a growing pool of talented leaders.

Deloitte CEO Giam Swiegers said: “Wayne has been an exceptional Chairman.  He has been an inspiring leader and has brought us a presence and a connection in the marketplace. With his trademark humour and ability to cut through to the essence of any issue, Wayne has ensured that the Board and the Executive have both worked harmoniously in delivering the plans and the vision of the firm, during a period of great change for professional services firms.

“I believe Wayne’s legacy is a high performance organisation, an Australian professional services firm, that has been  recognised for its financial success across the global Deloitte network of member firms as well as for its capacity to be agile and innovative in meeting a range of challenges during the volatile times of recent years.

“Personally I will miss his support and guidance as well as his friendship. All have been immensely important to my own effectiveness as a CEO and leader,” said Mr Swiegers.

New Chairman, Keith Jones has been an audit and corporate advisory partner with the firm since 1985. He took over the leadership of the West Australian practice in 1998, and ten years later the leadership of one of Deloitte’s largest national industry groups, its fast growing E&R practice as well as its China Services Group, managing significant inward investment flows from the Middle Kingdom.

Keith Jones is credited with growing the Perth practice from approximately 100 to over 500 employees, with revenues exceeding $110m in the FY2012/13, while also leading the substantial growth of the firm’s national E&R practice.

“Keith will provide the strong governance and support our Board has always given to the firm and its leadership,” commented Mr Goss.

Following his retirement from the firm Keith Jones recently announced that he would also be taking up a non- executive role as director and Chairman of Gindalbie Metals Limited (ASX: GBG – “Gindalbie”) following the retirement of  George Jones, effective 9 April 2013.

Mr Goss will also be resigning on May 31st from his role as Chairman of ASX listed engineering and project management company Ausenco Limited.
