Deloitte named a global leader in Change Management by Kennedy and launches a new framework for strategic change management

25 March 2013: Professional services firm Deloitte has been named a global Vanguard Leader, based on capabilities by Kennedy in their Change Management Consulting Market Report.

The inaugural Kennedy report covers global market trends and issues and evaluates market players. The evaluation is based primarily on the breadth and depth of service capabilities, client satisfaction, and market eminence.

Nicky Wakefield, Deloitte Consulting’s National Leader of Human Capital, believes Australian businesses face ever increasing complexity and challenge. This increases the margin for error when managing change.

“We need a very different approach to driving sustainable change. An approach that balances both the art and science of transformation. We need to be more precise in analysing the environment and understanding the objective issues as well as having an appreciation of what people are thinking and feeling.

“In Australia organisations are faced with tough challenges and are continually pushed to make change happen faster.  Human nature makes it difficult to speed up the traditional change process, so the way that organisations go about driving sustainable change in a fast paced world must transform” said Ms Wakefield.

In the global report “Organisational Acceleration: The new science of moving organisations forward”, Deloitte details a new framework for strategic change management which comprises three core themes:  

  • Insight: Analytics are increasingly used for change management; however the value arises from interpretation. It takes a combination of analytics and experience to turn information into insight which helps target exactly what needs to happen.
  • Precision tailoring: There is no single process by which people or organisations change. Organisations respond more effectively to solutions that are tailored to the way they operate, amplifying the need for a fine-tuned customisation of the change management process.
  • Impact: An organisation that has created change can sustain it by making it measurable. The impact also lasts longer when it is ingrained in the way people approach their work and through the organisation’s cultural change.

The report has identified leadership as the foundation for Organisational Acceleration – the condition that precedes all others.  

“Some would say that Leadership is in fact the only true competitive differentiator for organisations in the future when considering the complex challenge of driving fast paced sustainable change,” said Ms Wakefield.

“The findings highlight that it is often the leaders’ failure to execute strategic plans which contributes to the failure of organisational transformations.

“The new way of approaching change, isn’t driven by process, data, or ‘knowledge’ alone. It rests on a foundation of analytical insight and rigorous precision. The result is change that identifies and reaches defined goals more effectively and in a timely manner” added Ms Wakefield.
