Fiona Cahill to lead Deloitte Perth tax practiceDOWNLOAD
18 December 2013: Professional services firm Deloitte has appointed Fiona Cahill as the new leader of its Perth tax practice. Fiona will lead a team of more than 100 tax professionals, including 11 partners, and will take a seat on the Perth executive leadership team.
She will continue to be the tax leader of the China Services Group which advises Australian businesses looking for outbound opportunities in China and supports Chinese organisations expanding into Australia. Fiona is also heavily involved in Deloitte’s Inspiring Women initiative where she mentors the firm’s future female leaders.
Fiona takes over from Anthony Cipriano who after 12 years leading the Perth Tax Practice, has decided to retire from the partnership.
WA Office Managing Partner Michael McNulty said: “We’re lucky to have such a well-respected and accomplished leader to take over from Anthony. Fiona will no doubt put her own stamp on the Perth tax practice and together with the rest of the executives I am delighted to welcome her to the leadership team.”
Commenting on her appointment, Fiona said: “Since I joined the firm over seven years ago I’ve seen the tax practice grow significantly through the mining boom. We are now entering a new phase of that boom with our clients adapting to a new set of challenges, which is where our Research and Development, and Goods and Services Tax specialists are making a real impact.”
“From both an outbound and inbound perspective agribusiness offers a significant growth opportunity for WA. The sector requires new capital if it is to meet the increased global demand, especially from China’s burgeoning middle class as they consume more high quality produce,” she said.
“Chinese state owned enterprises are also looking to invest or expand their operations into Australia and our team is well equipped to help them navigate the complexities of the tax system and provide certainty on their investment decisions.”
Deloitte National Tax leader, Paul Riley said: “Fiona’s connections and experience gained as the tax leader of the China Services Group ideally position her to lead the practice into a new phase of growth.”
With over 20 years’ experience as a tax adviser, Fiona joined Deloitte as a partner in 2006.
