NSW Government service delivery: agency amalgamation |
Public services are meant to make life better for people. Yet many traditional service models for accessing and using those services have not always achieved this objective. Service integration, clear strategic direction and new tools and methods can all help address these challenges by bringing related services together in a way that makes them more cost effective, more accessible and more efficient. Activities are better coordinated; tax dollars are used more efficiently, with fewer resources wasted on redundant activities, unnecessary services and partial solutions.
This document seeks to make a positive contribution to the issues and challenges the NSW Government faces in the formation of its ‘super agency’ structure. While not an exhaustive study, it addresses some of the major areas that the NSW Government will need to examine in order to improve the delivery, value and effectiveness of its public services.
In addition, it outlines some of the tools and methods that are available to help assist agencies in meeting their strategic and policy objectives.
