Deloitte to provide an Auction Solution to the Clean Energy RegulatorDOWNLOAD |
31 January 2013: Professional services firm Deloitte has been selected by the Clean Energy Regulator to provide an Auction Solution to support auctioning of carbon units in accordance with the Clean Energy Act 2011. Deloitte’s solution will incorporate software from Victorian technology developer Tradeslot.
On 1 July 2015 the carbon pricing mechanism will move to a flexible, market-driven approach. As part of this approach the Government will issue a fixed number of carbon units each year. Some of these carbon units will be sold at auction.
The first auction of carbon units will take place in the first half of 2014 and will be conducted by the Clean Energy Regulator.
Deloitte will provide an auction solution to support this critical component of the flexible price period. Deloitte was selected following an open Request for Tender and the project will be led by Branko Panich, a partner in Deloitte Consulting’s technology practice.
“We are delighted to be working with the Clean Energy Regulator to deliver the Auction Solution as a managed service. This project brings together the best of Deloitte’s technology advisory, digital and risk & security capabilities in collaboration with auction software provider Tradeslot Pty Ltd,” said Mr Panich.
The Deloitte solution is based on the Tradeslot auction system. The managed service will also provide the ability for reliable integration between each of the operating parties, as well as providing the Clean Energy Regulator with secure access to the trading system for auction monitoring.
“We are excited by the impact this initiative will have on Australia’s journey of pricing and managing carbon emissions in order to support a lower carbon economy,” added Mr Panich.
