Brisbane attracts the best: Deloitte appointments

24 January 2013: Deloitte announces the appointment of John Debenham, former Executive General Manager at Suncorp and a former State Manager for ANZ, to lead its Financial Services practice in Queensland.

Mr Debenham will join seven key Deloitte partners in Consulting, Tax, Audit and Corporate Finance who have relocated to Brisbane to boost the global professional services firm’s state and nationwide reach.

Brisbane Deloitte Managing Partner, Tim Biggs said: “The business opportunities in Queensland are still very strong so we continue to invest in our Brisbane office and our Queensland clients by bringing senior Deloitte partners to Brisbane.  They include two international oil and gas leaders, a Deloitte Digital partner, a senior Corporate Finance partner and Deloitte Board member, in addition to the arrival of John Debenham, to lead our Financial Services group.

“This significant investment in our Queensland business is testament to the opportunities we see for Queensland and our commitment to bringing the best here, building on the excellent team already in place at Deloitte in Brisbane.

“John Debenham, for instance, held several senior roles in Suncorp and will bring a wealth of local insights to our financial services clients in Brisbane.  He will focus on developing and growing the services Deloitte provides to this sector.”

Deloitte Digital partner Kevin Russo relocated from Melbourne to Brisbane late in 2012 bringing his world-class digital expertise to our increasingly important Technology Consulting practice.

The Energy and Resources practice in Brisbane has been strengthened with the relocation of Geoffrey Cann from Deloitte in Canada, the return of Brisbane-trained Matthew Donaldson from Deloitte’s Energy and Resources group in the UK to take on a senior role in the Brisbane Energy and Resources group, and the arrival of mining expert Reuben Saayman from Deloitte in Sydney.

“Geoffrey was the Deloitte Canada national leader for Oil and Gas Consulting and we expect his deep industry expertise will take our offerings to a new level in the Queensland market,” said Mr Biggs.

“With the east coast gas market confronting the challenges of gearing up for LNG export whilst continuing to meet its domestic supply needs, having an operator of Geoffrey’s skill and international experience will be of enormous value to our many clients in the region.”

Rachel Foley-Lewis also joins the Brisbane office as a senior Corporate Finance partner, relocating from Sydney.  Appointed to the Deloitte national Board in 2012, Rachel is highly regarded specialist in the provision of valuation advice for mergers and acquisitions in the real estate industry, as well mining, financial services and media.

Other recent appointments include Deloitte partner Ken Sargison, who has relocated to Brisbane from Deloitte UK to lead our burgeoning Human Capital practice, and Deloitte partner Muhunthan Kanagaratnam, who has joined the Brisbane Tax practice from Sydney.

These recent additions add to an already strong and growing team of Brisbane Deloitte partners to a practice that has quadrupled in size in the last eight years.
