11 December 2012: Deloitte, and the Victorian Department of Health digital services and strategy team, have recently updated the Better Health Channel mobile app. The app aims to help all Victorians remain as healthy as they can be, through a range of new features including healthy recipes and customisable environmental health alerts and notifications
The new app builds on the popularity and widespread acclaim of version 1.0 (including being awarded the best medical app at the 2012 Australian Mobile Awards) to help health consumers take control of their health and wellbeing anytime, anywhere.
Frank Farrall, Lead partner for Deloitte Digital said: “We have found that mobile is increasingly becoming a key platform to help people improve their understanding of health issues and helps them actually manage their health and wellbeing through easy access to health information and health services wherever and whenever the need arises.”
Deloitte Digital utilised its extensive mobile development expertise to help the Department of Health deliver the original app which places up to date, easy to understand and trusted information, which has been quality assured by medical experts, in the palm of people’s hands.
“Technology is revolutionising the health care industry and is supporting better health outcomes. The Victorian Department of Health has taken the innovative step of providing Victorians with better access to reliable health information through mobile technology. This empowers consumers to make more informed decisions about their health,” added Mr Farrall.
The app delivers the full complement of health information from the Better Health Channel website including:
- Health conditions and healthy living – extensive information on a range of health conditions, food and nutrition, physical activity, healthy weight, health checks, immunisation and reducing alcohol and tobacco consumption.
- Healthy recipes and nutrition – includes hundreds of healthy recipes for a range of dietary requirements and lifestyle needs (e.g. low salt and sugar). You can save your favourites, and create a shopping list for when you’re next at the store.
- Relationships and family – covers an extensive range of topics from pregnancy to parenting, caring for others, and coping with relationship stress.
- Find a health service in Victoria – suburb and postcode discovery and detailed map directions to health service providers such as doctors, dentists and pharmacists.
- Treatments and first aid – information on a wide range of tests, treatments and common injuries - from bites and burns to heat stroke and hypothermia.
- Urgent medical help and advice – including contact information for Nurse-On-Call, Kids Helpline, Poisons Information, Lifeline and more.
- Customised health alerts – timely and customisable information about heat, UV, smog and pollen to better manage your health and wellbeing.
