Tourism & Hotel Market Outlook Q4 2012It's still about Asia |
![]()
In our Q4 2012 Tourism and Hotel Market Outlook we examine the factors that are driving Australia’s tourism and hotel sectors – today and over the next three years
While weak economic growth in traditional tourism source markets led to modest growth in international visitor arrivals over the last financial year, a number of indicators suggest a more positive outlook going forward. This quarter’s publication focuses, in particular, on the scale of the opportunity presented by the growth of the Chinese middle class.
Domestically, visitor nights continue to perform above expectations, indicating that the domestic visitor economy may have turned the corner after a prolonged period of challenge.
Consistent with the outlook for tourism, our forecasts for the hotel accommodation sector continue to point to a solid future – particularly in capital cities where room rates and occupancies are projected to continue to climb.
This quarter’s publication also highlights the impacts of digital disruption on the tourism industry and the imperative for operators to understand the risks and embrace the opportunities.
