Innovation in government: Mobile health app |
Some parts of the Australian Public Service lead their peers in innovation in services and service delivery. Others would certainly like to.
This interview is with the first ever Chief Technology Officer for the United States Government, Aneesh Chopra, who was appointed by President Obama in 2009. His role is to implement the government’s technology agenda by fostering new ideas and encouraging government-wide coordination to help the US public sector meet its goals, from job creation to reducing healthcare costs.
Aneesh talks about the three trends in technology which are challenging traditional models of innovation – particularly the links between deep pockets and the ability to innovate – and therefore the capacity of smaller government departments to ‘punch above their weight’.
Those in health and related areas will be particularly interested to read his case study of a mobile health app.
