In the current credit crisis many governments including in the UK, from where this paper emanates, face making budget cuts and implementing austerity measures.
In this context the use of analytics is examined for driving improvements in cost management and efficiency through better evidence-based decision making. In addition to using data to better manage public business it is also suggested that government can now publish greater volumes of data to improve transparency and third party reuse.
