The value of water

Analysis of the impact of climate change and water licensing on the Namoi Catchment

The value of water to the Namoi CatchmentOver the coming decades the Namoi Catchment's economy is expected to be impacted by both the effects of climate change and a reduction in irrigation entitlements held in the region as a result of the Murray Darling Basin Plan.

This report outlines the findings of modelling of the economic impacts between these two effects. It provides comparisons between a ‘no change’ scenario and scenarios that are affected by variables such as climate, rainfall, policy, industries and agricultural production and output.

The report also provides analysis of the areas within the Namoi Catchment that will be most affected by changes to climate and water availability, with regard to the economies of local communities and their ability to conduct sustainable agriculture production. Also detailed is the flow-on effect the different scenarios will have on other regions.
