A new direction for the NSW power sector?

Deloitte Australia Insights podcast

Ron Loborec

Upon re-election in early 2007 NSW Premier Morris Iemma asked Tony Owen, Professor of Energy Economics at Curtin University to report into future electricity supply in NSW. The Premier had previously stated his opposition to any sell-off of the state’s electricity generation assets. However, faced with the prospect of having to find the huge sums required to fund the additional electrical capacity while wishing to keep the state’s indebtedness to a level whereby its AAA credit rating would be maintained, Premier Iemma asked Professor Owen to evaluate the government’s options.

Ron Loborec, head of Deloitte Energy, Infrastructure & Resources, speaks with Professor Tony Owen about his report, released in September this year. They discuss the challenges faced in expanding electricity supply, as well as the key factors that would ensure the investment in the additional supply needed is forthcoming.
