Asia’s optimists: the life science & health care sector

Economist Intelligence Unit survey of corporate sentiment

In February 2012, Deloitte commissioned the Economist Intelligence Unit to survey 806 senior executives across the Asia Pacific region, drawn from key industry sectors.

The Survey findings show that life science and health care (LSHC) executives are by far the most optimistic of all sectors, with over 60% of LSHC respondents expecting growth in their industry and respective companies. By comparison, only 46 per cent of financial services respondents expect green pastures ahead.

Why are Asia’s life science and health care sector executives optimistic given a potential global economic recession looming given impacts of the Eurozone crisis?

This survey examines some likely causes for LSHC optimism including rising incomes as well as government programmes to expand health care coverage. Other topics covered include:

  • Outsourcing priorities
  • Financial risks
  • Strategic priorities
  • Human capital
  • Technology investment
