Modernizing your architecture? Think hybrid and multi-cloud

Part of the For Cloud Professionals podcast series

As the panoply of cloud vendors and products grows ever larger, so does the configuration and management complexity of the cloud. For many companies, this complexity can reduce the value of their cloud-computing investments. In this episode of the podcast, David Linthicum and guests, Intel’s Lisa Davis and Deloitte’s Doug Bourgeois, discuss ways companies can tackle cloud complexity and leverage multi-cloud architectures to help optimize cloud deployments in terms of performance, cost, and agility. Lisa and Doug also argue that companies need to realize that hardware isn’t a commodity and that cloud architectures—and talent acquisition decisions—must be driven by mission-critical business needs and workloads.

We have to stop thinking about the hardware and the underlying platforms as commodity, because it’s just not the case, particularly with the diversity and the evolution of the workloads.

Lisa Davis is vice president and general manager for IT Modernization in Intel Corporation’s, Enterprise and Government Data Center Group where she is responsible for growing Intel’s data center business.

Doug Bourgeois is a managing director in the Federal Technology Strategy & Architecture practice, focusing on cloud computing and shared services. Before coming to Deloitte, he previously led multiple cloud and secure mobility projects at VMware.

Managing a multi-cloud environment: strategy is everything

Many organizations are moving to a multi-cloud environment, but cloud complexity is multiplied in the multi-cloud. Having a sound strategy for implementation, data, security, automation, and collaboration is essential to both initial and long-term success.

Taming cloud complexity chaos

The cloud's value proposition is almost limitless, but as deployments become more complex, cloud complexity can degrade that value. To manage cloud complexity effectively, leading practices include increasing agility while focusing on improved governance, automation, and data architecture.

Put Cloud in context with the future of business and technology

Because cloud is never just about cloud, a podcast about cloud isn’t either. Our two hosts deliver two unique perspectives to bring you closer to achieving what matters most—your possible.

For Cloud Professionals, hosted by David Linthicum, provides an enterprise-level, strategic look at key issues impacting clients’ businesses. David, ranked as the #1 cloud influencer in a recent Apollo Research report, has published 13 books on computing, written over 5,000 published articles and performed over 500 conference presentations, making his expertise on the power of cloud simply undeniable.

As a pioneer in cloud computing, Mike Kavis leads Architecting the Cloud, which offers insights from the POV of those who’ve had hands-on experience with cloud technology. Mike’s personal cloud journey includes leading the team that built the world's first high-speed transaction network in Amazon's public cloud—a project that ultimately won the 2010 AWS Global Startup Challenge.

With two experts in your ear, you’ll have the content you need to drive the next conversation around cloud. Check out both talk tracks within the Deloitte On Cloud podcast to get the compelling stories on your schedule to help you understand the topics that are reshaping today’s market.
