UK Spring Budget - R&D Tax Relief Consultation

We welcome your input

Please note this consultation is now closed.

TA consultation, which run until 2 June 2021, was launched at the Spring Budget into the current UK R&D tax reliefs.  The aim of the consultation is to gather views on how the current tax schemes support or otherwise influence investment in innovation in the UK, and where changes may be appropriate. This is against the backdrop of the government’s stated aim to raise total investment in research and development to 2.4% of GDP by 2027.

The consultation offers a once in a decade opportunity for R&D scheme stakeholders  and covers topics from the definition of R&D, whether schemes for large companies and SMEs should be combined, rates of relief, whether changes should be made to how HMRC reviews and processes claims, etc.

Deloitte will be responding to the consultation, and as part of this we will be speaking with interested companies to gather their thoughts across the consultation’s 17 wide ranging questions.  If your company undertakes R&D in the UK, regardless of whether or not you currently file R&D tax claims, we invite you to share your views with us.

Should you wish to take part, please click on the link here to complete the short survey. The survey should only take 10-15 minutes to complete and it is not necessary to respond to all survey questions. Alternatively, if you would prefer to have a call to discuss the questions in the consultation please use the “contact us” link.
