Our clients & businesses

Hear from our leaders about some of the challenges and achievements our people and clients have worked on together - and priorities for the year ahead.

Pauline Biddle

Managing Partner for Clients & Industries

The past year has shown how quickly conditions, markets and economies can change. We have seen a continuing post-pandemic rebalancing, the evolution of many sectors, strong M&A activity and growing economic headwinds.

Deloitte’s role has been to help our clients understand and manage these in a way that supports their resilience and future growth, enabling employment, social progress and prosperity across the UK.

Our clients continue to drive their ambitious growth plans, seeking guidance on key market themes such as M&A, technology and the transition to net zero. Deloitte colleagues remain invested in long-term client relationships and bringing a real focus on insight and market perspectives.

Hear more from Pauline as she discusses her highlights from the year.

Dan Barlow

Managing Partner for Regional Markets

For the UK’s nations and regional economies to grow and prosper it is critical that business, government and academia work together towards a shared vision. With nearly 6,500 people based outside of London, we are deeply committed to playing our part in the success of our local communities.

Each nation and region has sectors that will drive sustained growth, even in a challenging economic climate. That could be fintech and investment management in Scotland, for example, or the decarbonisation of industry and the production of green energy in the North East.

We seek out ways to better understand, convene and drive progress in those regions and sectors, while focusing on some of the core areas that are imperative for all, such as skills and infrastructure and the transition to a greener economy.

Hear Dan share examples of the impact our firm and our people have had in driving regional growth.

Paul Stephenson

Managing Partner for Audit & Assurance

Audit helps to build trust and confidence. It should equip investors and other stakeholders to make more informed decisions based on meaningful information.

The focus and expectations of the market on the provision of high-quality corporate reporting has never been greater, and our audit and assurance business recognises our public interest role in supporting this.

Our people’s commitment to integrity and providing assurance in the areas that matter most to our stakeholders is at the core of everything we do. Combining the latest tools, technologies, processes and procedures to deliver high quality audits, our teams work across a wide range of listed organisations to support the reliability of information that companies report. We continue to innovate and enhance our audit product to ensure it is valuable to business leaders, investors and broader society.

As part of our support for wider audit and corporate governance reform, we are making significant changes to our firm. Our managing partner for audit and assurance, Paul Stephenson, explains more.

Richard Bell

Managing Partner for Financial Advisory

Our performance, achieved through increased market activity, has given us the opportunity to invest in, and rapidly transform, our business.

In FY22, we hired a record 637 people from a variety of backgrounds and specialisms and worked hard to maintain a highly collaborative culture throughout the challenges of COVID-19. In the last year, we advised on 50% of UK M&A transactions with a disclosed deal value of more than £500 million. We have built a Performance Improvement business – our progressive response to stressed and distressed markets – and used leading proprietary technology, advanced analytics and artificial intelligence in combating economic crime.

As we continue to solidify market-leading credentials in our established businesses, and create additional advisory depth, our recruitment plans for the coming year are even more ambitious – we will welcome an additional 850 people in FY23.

Watch Richard discuss some of the projects we’ve been working on.

Andy Morris

Managing Partner for Risk Advisory

Our teams have helped clients to build resilience in the face of risks caused by the post-pandemic recovery, geopolitical instability, economic challenge and climate change. The work we do to keep risk issues at the forefront of the agenda remains highly relevant during this period of uncertainty.

We were able to increase digital security through our cyber, cloud and strategic risk programmes, and instil confidence among our financial services clients in how they respond to national and international regulatory policy. Alongside this we helped finance, risk and control functions to build trust and drive efficiency. Elsewhere, we supported CFOs as they tackled an increasingly diverse set of challenges – spurred on by a buoyant M&A market driving finance integration and the shifting sustainability agenda that’s creating new responsibilities around ESG regulation and reporting. Risk is no longer the preserve of a specialist function but an organisation-wide concern.

Watch Andy explain how our work is helping clients to build the confidence to grow responsibly.

Lisa Stott

Managing Partner for Tax & Legal

Tax and legal systems play a considerable role in era-defining issues that affect us all. This year, these have included significant changes to aid the recovery from the pandemic, the cost of living crisis, action on climate change and the government’s longer-term economic strategy for the UK.

We are proud of the contribution we make in supporting taxpayer engagement, promoting the growth of the economy, responding to societal challenges and working with government as it develops effective tax policy and digitises its tax systems.

We have 4,000 experts who make an impact by using their diverse skills, disciplines and experiences to help clients navigate tax, legal and regulatory systems.

Watch Lisa talk about creating better futures for our clients, communities and people through the work that we do.
