Rethinking facility strategies in the wake of health care reform and the post-Sandy era

Staying ahead

On April 4, 2013, 20 executives convened in Dallas, New York City, and Philadelphia for Deloitte’s fourth-annual health care facilities roundtable. The theme for this year’s Telesuites event: “Staying ahead: Re-thinking facility strategies in the wake of health care reform and the post Sandy era.” In addition to Deloitte, participating organizations included co-host Array Architects, regional health care systems, large urban public hospital systems, specialty hospitals, academic medical centers, technology consultants, city agencies, and a health care facility planning firm.

The day’s dialogue (conducted primarily in a question-and answer format) focused on three broad topics:

  • Ambulatory care, distributed networks of clinics: How to plan facilities in the face of health reform’s new incentives.
  • Information technology: The impact of electronic health records, mobile technology and other IT issues on new or renovated facilities.
  • The aftermath of Superstorm Sandy: How to plan new or retrofit facilities based on the impacts of the last storm.

This post-event executive summary offers highlights of the roundtable sessions. We sincerely hope that this publication provides information and insights on these important topics that you can take back to your organizations.
