Adopting the Value Habit(And unleashing more value for your stakeholders) |

The previously released The Value Habit (A practical guide to creating value), went beyond the concept of value by looking at the behaviors that commonly get in the way and the actions you can take to overcome these behaviors. This complementary survey report, Adopting the Value Habit (And Unleashing More Value for Your Stakeholders), further illuminates this perspective.
In conjunction with the Economist Intelligence Unit, we surveyed global executives and board members about their company’s current practices related to the key behavioral issues outlined in The Value Habit. We focused, for example, on companies’ orientation toward process, people, systems and projects alignment. What we found is that companies are missing opportunities to reach their true potential.
Nearly half of senior executives reported that their people and processes are not in sync with the overall corporate strategy.
Only 14 percent of respondents have all of the necessary processes to achieve significant value creation in their project portfolio.
More than a quarter of respondents aren't confident that their companies can respond quickly to changes in the economic, financial and business environment.
Survey demographics
We surveyed nearly 150 senior executives around the world to determine whether their companies were following the key principles of value creation—and to what extent. About half of the respondents were C-level executives or board members. The single largest group was chief financial officers, followed by chief executives. Other respondents were business unit and department heads, senior vice presidents and other senior executives. The executives surveyed were based mainly in the U.S. (36%), followed by the U.K., Germany and India (6% each) and Canada (5%). The average annual revenue of the companies was about $5 billion. The single largest revenue category was companies with sales of more than $10 billion.
