Online Usage: 2008 Survey of Health Care ConsumersAmerican health care consumers want increased online access |
Publish date:
Health consumers are demanding enhanced online access to all facets of health care. That much is clear. When it comes to questions of adding value to health care services they receive, greater digital connectivity leads the list.
What is less clear is how dramatically that will change the way doctors, hospitals, health plans, the pharma industry and related segments operate – and how they manufacture and market their products.
Among the key online access findings in the Deloitte survey:
- 60 percent of respondents want online access to their doctors, to medical records, test results and to same-day appointments
- 1 in 4 said they would pay more to physicians for such digital amenities
- 46 percent say they’d be interested in keeping an online or software computer program personal health care record
- Gen X and women are most likely to want online access to medical records and test results
- 1 in 3 consumers consult health-related Web sites and pharmacists
- Gen X and Baby Boomers are the most likely to use health-related sites
- More than 1 in 4 has used a health plan Web site for information on the quality of a physician or hospital
