One Good Turn Twenty2

Getting moving together to fundraise for refugees and the homeless

One Good Turn is Deloitte Ireland’s annual flagship fundraising event that also focuses on connection, community, and wellbeing.

Following the inaugural One Good Turn in 2021, we set ourselves the ambition of running an even bigger event in 2022, and in a way that was even more inclusive of all our colleagues. As our business grows and thrives, sharing moments that matter together is important to making meaningful connections and a sense of belonging.

Nearly 700 Deloitte professionals took part in five different activities – walking, hiking, running, swimming, and cycling – as part of the one-day event.  With the war in Ukraine and the housing crisis front of mind for our people in 2022, we selected the Change X Community Response Fund and Simon Community Northern Ireland as beneficiaries of the funds raised from One Good Turn Twenty2.

Over €128,000 was raised for these causes through the collective fundraising efforts of our participants.

ChangeX , our lead charity partner, and the impact of the funds

As part of the national response to the Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis, ChangeX created the Community Response Fund to support host communities across Ireland meeting the immediate needs of displaced Ukrainian families. Deloitte Ireland’s participation in this fund through the money raised from One Good Turn helped to secure additional funding which was critical to launch and to expand the programme. In late 2022, the fund widened in scope to allow ”Open Grant” applications with the goal of supporting a wider range of integration focused activities as Ukrainian families settled and built lives in Ireland. To date, 41 projects have been supported through this fund, benefitting more than 3,000 people and engaging hundreds of volunteers in Ireland’s effort to welcome and integrate Ukrainian refugees.

The friendships built and the knowledge gained – both English and local amenities and services – is building great capacity within the Ukrainian community

Deloitte Ireland's continued support for our Community Response Fund, which enables Ukrainian families to settle in Ireland, is supporting incredible people and projects in communities across Ireland. From all of us at ChangeX, huge congratulations to you all on this year's One Good Turn initiative. Thank you to everyone who organised, took part in or supported a running, walking, swimming or cycling event. It was a joy to take part on the day with the Cork crew and experience the Deloitte Ireland community spirit first-hand.

Simon Community Northern Ireland

Each day, Simon Community supports over 630 marginalised people some of whom are ready to live independently again, but often have nowhere to go due to the severe housing shortage in Northern Ireland. Funds such as these can help create homes.

One Good Turn exemplifies the power of our people as a collective to make an impact that matters to our communities by raising funds for causes close to our hearts. At the same time, it provides our colleagues an opportunity to support their own wellbeing through connection and collaboration. The event has become a flagship moment for Deloitte Ireland annually offering comradery and instilling great pride and achievement in our colleagues across the island of Ireland. It has also established lasting connections through employee networking, and memories across the firm. We our continuing with this initiative in 2023 and hoping to make an even bigger impact.
