Deloitte has been involved with the United Nations Global Compact, an initiative seeking to promote responsible global citizenship by advancing universal values in business operations, since its inception. Deloitte is the only professional services organization to be a founding member of the initiative. The Global Compact brings companies together with UN agencies, labor organizations and civil society to support 10 principles in the areas of anti-corruption, human rights, labor and the environment. Deloitte strongly supports the 10 Global Compact principles and participates in global meetings and a number of regional Global Compact networks. Deloitte has also fulfilled its obligation to publicly communicate its progress in relation to the Global Compact principles. Partnership for small enterprise development In 2003, Deloitte was commissioned by the United Nations Development Programme and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization under the auspices of the Global Compact to provide a resource document for its workshop on partnerships for small enterprise development. "Partnerships for small enterprise development" provides an overall guide and framework for how Global Compact companies and others can engage in partnerships to support the development of small enterprises (SMEs), whether the engagement is directly linked to their business or involves general support to SMEs to strengthen and diversify the local economy.
