Denmark, located in Northern Europe, consists mostly of the Jutland Peninsula and numerous islands in the Baltic Sea and North Sea. Denmark's area is about 43,000 square kilometres (16,600 square miles). Denmark shares a border with Germany and has close relations with the other Nordic countries (Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden). Denmark is a member of the European Union (EU).
The population is about 5.4 million.
Denmark's language is Danish; many Danes also speak English and German.
Denmark is a constitutional monarchy with a history of political and social stability.
