In FY07, the energy sector was characterised, in Belgium and abroad, by a continuous internationalisation of the market players and a lot of activity in the new energy segments such as wind and solar energy production.

While the electricity and gas sector are still led by the traditional market leaders, new players are entering as deregulation continues at a fast pace.

Deloitte is very strong in this segment with significant audit presence, but is also seeing significant growth in advisory services. For example, it has recently been selected to help solve problems that have arisen due to the liberalisation of the power and gas market in Flanders.

The oil and gas sector in Belgium is limited to refinery activity and distribution. Most large international players in this market have Belgian activities. Deloitte has served many of them extensively with major new contracts.
