The Deloitte / Management Magazine Top 200 Awards

The Deloitte / Management Magazine Top 200 Awards have been running annually since 1990. Designed to recognise and celebrate management excellence in New Zealand, the Awards include Company of the Year, Executive of the Year and Chairperson of the Year.

Other categories include the Business Ethics Award (by nomination), Emerging Enterprise Award and Visionary Leader Award. Also presented on the night is the NZIM Young Executive of the Year Award.

The winners of these categories are selected from the Top 200 companies list as compiled each year by Management Magazine in association with Deloitte. Regarded as one of the business community’s most highly respected sources of information, the list shows how companies rise and fall in the face of an ever-changing business environment.

Each year Management Magazine writes to 1000 of New Zealand’s top companies to collect the information needed for this project. Annual reports from each are reviewed and Deloitte check the figures. As the list is pulled together, judges review the results looking for their award-winning shortlist.

The awards are presented in November each year and attract around 700 top executives. Award results and judges comments are found in the December issue of Management Magazine. www.management.co.nz/top200/

The Deloitte / Unlimited Fast 50

The Fast 50 was created over a decade ago by Deloitte, and has been running in New Zealand since 2001.

One of Deloitte’s main areas of expertise is helping businesses grow, and the Fast 50 is one way to supplement our understanding and support for the key drivers of growth.

The Deloitte / Unlimited Fast 50 is an index of New Zealand’s fastest growing companies based on percentage revenue growth. This is a benchmark for growth and it is open to all companies that meet the following criteria:

  • Have operating revenues of at least $250,000 in first year measured and at least $500,000 in the third year measured
  • Have been in business for a minimum of three years
  • Have New Zealand registered operations

The list is compiled from two main sources - nominations submitted directly to Deloitte from any company that meets the criteria, and from company research and public records.

Fast 50 companies are announced at an awards ceremony in October, with winners listed in the November issue of Unlimited Magazine. www.fast50.co.nz

Excelerator: The New Zealand Leadership Institute

The University of Auckland Business School's Leadership Institute was launched in 2004 with the help of Deloitte and other business leaders. Excelerator has been set up to help lift the quality of leadership in New Zealand. As the leader behind some of New Zealand's business leaders, we understand the difference between management and leadership, and we see the difference that outstanding leadership makes throughout the business and wider communities.

Our involvement with Excelerator reinforces our brand and signals our commitment to leadership for the development of the whole country. At the same time it will allow us to benefit from cutting edge research and support in developing the leadership skills of our own people at Deloitte.

Project K

The Project K Trust is dedicated to building self-confidence and giving life-direction to young people aged 13-15yrs.

The Trust’s programmes teach life skills such as goal setting, as well as promoting good health and education. Developed in 1995 by New Zealanders Graeme Dingle and Jo-anne Wilkinson, Project K is about inspiring young people to maximise their potential.

The unique three-stage programmes – wilderness, community and mentoring - are vigorously researched and evaluated. Regular reviews ensure the latest thinking on youth development is incorporated and the programmes remain at best practice level.

Deloitte is proud to be associated with the Project K Trust by providing professional services and support. By supporting the Project K Trust, the programme can continue to spread to keen communities around the country and students can participate at no cost. www.projectk.org.nz
