Green agenda

We recognise our responsibility to minimise the impact of our business operations and services on the environment.  A recent major step has been to undertake an assessment of our carbon footprint, produced on our behalf by The Carbon Neutral Company which has helped us to focus on the areas of major impact from our business activities.

We recently launched The Green Agenda within the firm, which draws together the activities being undertaken to reduce or improve our environmental impact into a single programme.  The Green Agenda has been received with great enthusiasm by our people and will be supported by a volunteer network of Green Champions in our London and regional offices.

The major activities within The Green Agenda are:

  • Recycling. The implementation of a comprehensive recycling scheme across our London campus, which we expect to result in the recycling of over 70% of our waste.  Recycling will be extended across our regional office network over the next 12 months.
  • Dark green energy.  100% of our purchased electricity is now classified as dark green (from wind, solar or other renewable sources).
  • Reducing paper usage. We are making double-sided printing (duplex) the default standard on all new printers.
  • Business travel.  We are investigating ways to reduce the impact of our business travel on the environment, including investment in technology such as video-presence systems.
  • Resource usage in buildings.  The design of the new buildings in Deloitte’s London campus will be managed within the BREEAM standards which includes designing building designed to reduce energy and water consumption.
  • Catering. Our client meeting rooms, hospitality suites and vending machines use fair trade coffee and the water in our client rooms is mains filtered and served in reusable glass bottles.

Link to Environmental policy

We have ethical and environmental guidelines for procurement activities and it is our priority to work in partnership with
our suppliers to enhance and sustain environmental standards.  We engage regularly with our suppliers to identify opportunities for improvement and the implementation of best practice.

As part of The Green Agenda we will be setting environmental targets for the 2008 financial year to reduce or mitigate the environmental impact of our business activities.  These targets will be externally published and reported.
