Climate change and sustainability are global issues which need a global response. Regardless of our size and geographical position the impact of climate change and an increasing consumer preference for sustainability creates significant demands upon business and government. For many it is a whole new ball game. The ramifications - whether from marketing, strategic planning, business development, financial reporting, risk management or simple compliance perspective – will require considerable focus and commitment of resources.
Today there is a clear and growing support for the idea that companies can transform themselves into environmentally and socially responsible enterprises that deliver measurable benefits to their host communities, while still providing solid returns for their shareholders.
While climate change and sustainability are seen by some as relatively new topics, Deloitte has been committed on a global level to these issues for many years. We are members of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development and in 2002 in conjunction with the World Economic Forum we developed the Greenhouse Gas Register. In New Zealand, Deloitte has been a member of the New Zealand Business Council for Sustainable Development (NZBCSD) since 1999 and our Chairman, Nick Main, currently chairs the NZBCSD.
The team at Deloitte can help you understand and respond to the challenges and opportunities related to climate change and sustainability.
