Tip-offs Anonymous in Zimbabwe and Malawi

Tip-offs Anonymous has been welcomed in Zimbabwe and Malawi as a safe and convenient channel for reporting unethical business practices.

In Zimbabwe Tip-offs Anonymous commenced operations in June 2000 as a service line of Deloitte and now boasts a list of approximately 100 subscribing clients. These clients are distributed in most sectors of the economy, including, but not limited to manufacturing, mining, retail, banking, hotel, agriculture, insurance and the service industry. Our clients represent just over 50% of the counters listed on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange, and represent 66% of the market capitalisation of the stock exchange. We also have clients that are parastatals, non-profits and as well as a tertiary institiution.

Following its introduction in Zimbabwe, Tip-offs Anonymous was subsequently established in Malawi in November 2000.

The Contact Centre
We operate a regional contact centre based in Harare, which handles reports emanating from Zimbabwe and Malawi. It is secure, equipped with state of the art equipment and is manned by professional call operators, responding in English, Shona, Ndebele and Chichewa. There is live monitoring from 07h30 to 18h30.  Outside these hours, an interactive voice mail facility is available.

Client Support
In order to ensure clients derive maximum value from the service, we continually offer expert support on how to implement and maintain it. As part of the service, clients receive customized posters every three months, for placing on staff notice boards.

Feedback is a major area of concern since research has shown that where there is no feedback to callers, there will be a significant reduction in the number of Tip-off reports received. Every quarter therefore all clients receive Employee Feedback Bulletins, which summarise tip–off report activity specific to their organisations.  Clients also receive an informative Executive Update Bulletin, which is circulated to senior management within client organisations and which among other topics, contains information on prevailing unethical business practices trends and report statistics.

Additional Services
We offer our clients additional services, which include
• Fraud and ethics training
• Forensic investigations – these are carried out in conjunction with Enterprise Risk Services, which is also a Deloitte Service Line.
