 Although sovereign wealth funds (SWFs) have existed for many years, they have only recently captured the public’s attention. Given SWFs recent interest in financial services companies, insurance and reinsurance companies are likely to be the next target because of the role they play in risk transfer and providing capital to the markets.
This new Deloitte Research report, Insurance Firms: The Missing Link in the Sovereign Wealth Fund Acquisition Spree, focuses on funds with strategic motives that seek to gain something beyond a typical investment return. The report finds likely that future investors in insurance will be from sovereign wealth funds in China and the Middle East because both regions, for different reasons, are currently deficient with respect to insurance services.
