Turkish Electricity Market

Electricity energy market, which is one of the cornerstones of economic development, is experiencing a rapid growth and liberalization process in Turkey. There is a transition to a competitive electricity market structure in order to attract private sector investments to meet the demand, which is growing at 6-9% per year on average, and in order to decrease the electricity prices for increasing the competitiveness of the other industries. Our report, which discusses the expected future developments in Turkish electricity market together with the investment environment related findings, puts forward the importance of establishing a competitive electricity market. Summarizing the reform process until today, the report argues that the market participants, in response to market development and expectations, have to establish the business process, organizational structure and information technology infrastructure required by the new business model and new market structure.
