Deloitte appoints Director of Forensic and Dispute Services 31 March 2008 Deloitte has announced the appointment of Andrew Brown to the position of Director of Forensic and Dispute Services within the Financial Advisory team.

In this role he will be responsible for developing Deloitte’s service offering to clients who have concerns over allegations of financial misconduct or fraud, in addition to assisting solicitors and their clients in resolving disputes involving accounting issues.

F1 Grands Prix are the world’s most valuable annual sporting events 18 March 2008 Formula 1 boasts the world’s highest revenue generating annual sporting events, with the 18 Grands Prix in 2007 having an average revenue of $217 million.  This compares with per game values of $24 million in the NFL, $8 million in the FA Premier League and $2 million in the MLB.

At absolute revenue levels, F1’s global revenues of $3.9 billion (Source: Formula Money) mean only the NFL ($6.5 billion in 2006) and MLB ($5.1 billion in 2006) earn more revenue, albeit from a substantially higher number of events.  The Premier League clubs’ combined revenue was $3 billion in the 2006/07 season.

Wal-Mart remains largest global retailer, according to Deloitte survey 10 March 2008 Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (Wal-Mart) has remained the world’s largest retailer, according to the 2008 Global Powers of Retail report, from Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, in conjunction with STORES magazine. The US company increased its lead over second place French retailer Carrefour, with retail sales growth more than double the pace of its rival.

The report shows that total sales for the Top 250 rose to $3.25 trillion in fiscal 2006, up eight percent from the previous year.  In addition, more companies in the Top 250 contributed to that growth.  Only 36 retailers saw declining sales in 2006, compared with 49 in 2005.  According to the report,...

Sharp drop in 2007 buy-out deal values as credit crunch bites 20 February 2008 The value of private equity completions in Ireland in 2007 fell to €440 million from €1.36 billion, down 67% on the previous year, according to the annual survey of the Centre for Management Buy-out Research (CMBOR), the pre-eminent provider of analysis on the Irish & UK markets founded by Barclays Private Equity and Deloitte.

The significant drop in buy-out / buy-in deal values during the year resulted in an average deal value of €33.8 million, down from €85.1 million in 2006. United rise but Real Madrid stays top 14 February 2008 Manchester United has climbed two places to second in the latest Football Money League from business advisory firm Deloitte, which ranks the 20 biggest football clubs in the world based on revenue.  Real Madrid remains the world’s largest revenue generating club, completing a hat-trick of first place finishes.  Analysis in the Football Money League is based on the latest financial information for the 2006/07 season.

European independent study on filtering tools 11 February 2008 Deloitte announced today the results of a second European study on filtering solutions for illegal and possibly harmful online information aimed at children. This independent study was carried out on behalf of the European Commission as part of the “Safer Internet plus Programme” (SIP). Thirty of the most widespread filtering tools were tested by more than one hundred parents and teachers in ten European countries, and by Expert Testers.
