We all know that if South Africa is to have any hope of growing the economy and reducing unemployment, the SMME sector needs to flourish. And for small businesses to grow, they need mentoring and guidance. Last year, Deloitte relaunched the Succeed Campaign in partnership with the Businesswomen’s Association (BWA) and Business Partners to assist women entrepreneurs in their small businesses. The annual Deloitte Pretoria Marathon took place on March 1, with the start and finish taking place at the Phobians Running Club in Lynnwood. The race was a tremendous success with a total of 1185 athletes completing the race by the cut off time of 11am. In addition to the Marathon, a 21km race, 10km race and 10km walk were completed by 3757 participants. The sponsors, Deloitte, who had 150 employees participating, and organisers Phobians Running and Walking Club, were once again proud to be associated with this exciting and fun filled day. The Deloitte results for the November 2007 Public Practice Examination (PPE) released today by the Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors (IRBA) indicated that the professional services firm’s transformation strategy is paying dividends as the gap between Black and White pass rates was closed. The PPE results revealed that the firm’s overall pass rate of 88% (308 individuals), which is up on last year’s 84%, was significantly better than the IRBA national pass rate, which has remained at 71% for two consecutive years.
