03 August 2005 |
Budapest, August 3, 2005 - Ensuring integrity in the food supply chain is critical to all organisations involved in food production, distribution, processing and retailing. Any breakdown in the integrity of the food supply chain can have a dramatic impact on individual businesses, industries and even whole countries' economies. Whilst the vast majority of our food is safe, many high-profile cases underline the potential dangers. Salmonella in dairy and poultry products; MAP in dairy; pesticide residues in fruit and vegetables; environmental contaminants in sea-food; e-coli, BSE and drug residues in meat….. the list... |

| Introduction to biometrics |
27 July 2005 |
Budapest, 27 July, 2005 - The term “biometrics” is derived from the Greek words “bios” and “metron,” and translates as “life measurement” (ROOD AND HORNAK 2003). According to the NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF STANDARDS AND TECHNOLOGY (2003), biometrics in the sense used today in information technology refers to the automatic recognition of a person based on physiological or behavioural characteristics. The use of biometric characteristics for identification is not an innovation, only the technology used for its automation. Biometrics first became a distinct field of study when... |

| Risk of anti-globalization |
20 July 2005 |
Budapest, 20 July, 2005 - Participants of the Davos summit are well acquainted with the sensible arguments in favor of globalization. The freer movement of goods, capital, and labor has led to vast improvements in living standards, especially those of poor people in emerging countries. Those countries that have not participated in globalization have seen stagnant or declining living standards, more corruption, vast differences between rich and poor, and often violent and repressive regimes. Yet not everyone in the world is convinced. Many voices in and out of government have spoken loudly against globalization. Their criticism has... |

| Deloitte's statement on the Postabank Case |
31 May 2005 |
We are at a loss to understand the May 31, 2005, judgment in the Postabank case. Once we have received and studied the written first instance judgment, it is our firm opinion that we will appeal against it as Deloitte conducted the respective audits of Postabank with due care, professionalism and in accordance with the relevant domestic and international standards and laws. As far as the size of the damage is concerned, it is too early to speculate, especially since the judge not only did not quantify it at this stage but also ruled that the parties sould share the damage, if there was any damage at all. It is inappropriate to comment... |
