Bratislava, 8 October 2008: Deloitte is launching its Tax Academy for the second year in. The most successful participants in last year’s academy are today employees of Deloitte’s Tax Department.

„We believe that it is important to draw students’ attention to the fact that in order to be competitive they need to gain practical experience, and that is what the Tax Academy offers them. We hereby invite all students who deal with tax advisory or are interested in gaining knowledge in this area to participate in the second year of the Tax Academy. Everyone has a chance“

Drahomíra Garajová,
BHR manager at Deloitte.

The Tax Academy offers students the opportunity to participate in seminars, presentations, interactive workshops, case studies and open discussion in the area of taxation for a period of five weeks at Deloitte’s premises in Bratislava. Students will have a chance to meet tax experts, ask practical questions from this area and receive a certificate of participation in the Academy. Moreover, the most successful participants will be offered employment at Deloitte.

“I heard about the Tax Academy at another university than the one I was attending at the time. I was attracted by a poster in the lobby offering participation in a seminar relating to practical issues in the tax area. I knew that this would be an extraordinary project from the very first time I contacted Deloitte. The seminars were led by Tax Department managers who did their best to provide us with a closer look at the practical side of tax advisory. A bonus was that the lectures included discussions and problem solving tasks. The interactive nature of the seminars gave deeper insight into tax advisory as well as an opportunity to meet with people from Deloitte who provide tax advisory services. A couple days after the Tax Academy ended, I received an employment offer from Deloitte. I didn’t hesitate to accept it – during the Tax Academy, I not only learned about the scope of work, but also met my future colleagues. A year into my work for Deloitte, I have to say I made the right decision,” said Pavol Lukáčik, a participant in last year’s Deloitte Tax Academy who currently works as a consultant in Deloitte’s Tax Department.

Interested fourth and fifth-year university students can apply to attend the Deloitte Tax Academy from 13 October until 3 November 2008 directly at www.deloitte.sk. The number of places is limited. The Tax Academy will take place on 6, 13, 20 and 27 November and 4 December 2008 in Bratislava. The students will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge in areas such as Income tax in the EU, Double taxation treaties, Personal income tax, VAT legislation and basic principles in practice and Transfer pricing. Submitted CVs will undergo a thorough review process and the selected students will have a chance to apply their skills and link their theoretical knowledge with practice.
