Two senior practitioners from Deloitte have been appointed to the boards of organisations charged with over viewing and facilitating the adoption of accounting and auditing standards. Both appointments have been announced by the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) which reports to Treasury.
Bruce Porter, Partner Technical, National Assurance & Advisory Services for Deloitte Melbourne, has been appointed to the Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB) for a term of three years. The AASB is empowered to issue legally binding Accounting Standards for entities regulated by the Corporations Act, and recently issued Australian equivalents to International Financial Reporting Standards.
His appointment is effective from January 1 and follows his active participation for Deloitte over the last six years on the AASB’s Urgent Issues Group as well as his role as a Victorian divisional councillor for CPA Australia. Last year Bruce was awarded the CPA’s President Award for his contribution to policy development and research into external reporting.
Clive Mottershead, Partner Assurance & Advisory Services for Deloitte Melbourne, has been appointed to the Australian Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (AUASB) for a period of two years. His reappointment, effective July 1, follows his close involvement and contribution to the previous AUASB.
The AUASB was re-constituted last year following the introduction of Clerp 9. As the national auditing and assurance standards setter, the AUASB has an important role in developing high quality audit standards and related guidance for auditors and providers of other assurance service and the translation of audit standards to law from July 1, 2006.
Both appointments recognise the contribution Deloitte has made to the development and implementation of accounting and audit standards in Australia and the high technical competence of these two partners who also work closely with our IFRS and A & A global practice groups, said Giam Swiegers, chief executive officer of Deloitte Australia.
