Sydney Thursday 4 October 2007: Ben Hare, a young Equities Dealer from Goldman Sachs, JBWere asset management, has won a round the world trip from global professional services firm Deloitte for his paper on the implications of climate change for the investment industry.
The awards ceremony, organised by the Investment and Financial Services Industry Association, IFSA, and Deloitte celebrated 13 future industry leaders’ responses to some of the industry’s most challenging public policy issues.
Presenting the awards was keynote speaker and APRA Chairman, Dr John Laker, who described the development and changing regulatory landscape of the industry over the past 25 years, his own journey and his current role as Chairman of the industry regulator at the large industry lunch.
IFSA Deputy CEO, John O’Shaughnessy, said, “The IFSA Board and Deloitte felt that it was important that the topics selected for the awards reflected current priority issues facing the Australian financial services industry.
"Entrants for the 2007 awards were invited to submit papers suggesting ways the industry can better:
-
shrink the retirement savings gap
-
address climate change
-
extend the reach of life insurance to reach more of the population, including Gen X and Y.
“The IFSA/Deloitte Future Leaders Awards are a tremendous opportunity for the financial services industry to encourage young people to have a say in the future direction of the industry and its response to a range of current issues.
“Participants can build their career profiles by having their talents recognised by the leaders of today,” Mr O’Shaughnessy said.
Deloitte’s lead wealth management partner Sarah Woodhouse, on congratulating the winners, said, “The three finalists have done a thorough job.
Their submissions are well written and well structured and convincingly argued. The conclusions and recommendations in all the papers stand out as potential roadmaps for the industry.
