Harry Patel of GAB Robins in Australia and Judith Llanes of QBE in the Philippines have won the $10,000 Peter Corrigan International Exchange Award for 2007.

Selected by a six member judging panel for global professional services firm Deloitte and the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF), the Peter Corrigan International Exchange Award recognises outstanding young individuals in the Asia Pacific region.

The annual awards were launched in 2004 to support talented young insurance professionals and to strengthen insurance industry links throughout Asia Pacific.  Established by Deloitte and ANZIIF, the awards honour the legacy of the late Peter Corrigan, a leader in the insurance industry and former managing partner of Trowbridge Deloitte, the actuarial and consulting advisory arm of Deloitte.

All award entrants were required to submit a proposal outlining an area of study they would undertake that would benefit the wider insurance industry. The proposals outlined the field of study and the locations within the region that the research would be undertaken. The two winners receive A$5,000 each to contribute towards their study tour.

Mr Patel plans to study claims handling and customer service philosophies and processes in Australia and Japan, whilst Ms Llanes proposal looks at microinsurance and its viability as a product in the Philippines.

Both winners will present a report of the outcomes of their work and study program and their reports will be published and promoted widely for the benefit of the insurance industry. They also have the opportunity to be profiled through presentation of their reports at appropriate conferences and in relevant insurance industry publications.

Joan Fitzpatrick, ANZIIF CEO and judging panel member said, “Both Harry and Judith are worthy winners, and Deloitte and the Institute look forward to supporting their study. Their research will provide valuable insight and information for the benefit of the wider insurance industry”.

The Peter Corrigan Award will be presented to the two winners at the annual Australia and New Zealand Insurance Industry Awards gala evening which will be held at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre on 2 August. The presentation dinner was a sell-out event in 2006, attended by more than 700 industry members.
