The panel of the Peter Corrigan International Exchange Awards announced its two winners at the Australian and New Zealand Insurance Industry Awards, on Monday 24 July.

The awards recognise and support talented young insurance professionals in developing their leadership abilities and international business links in Australia, Asia, New Zealand and the South West Pacific. 

The two winners, selected from a short list of 12 outstanding applicants, share $10,000 to support their work, study, research and cultural exchange in the region. They are:

• Andre Levey, Santos Ltd, Adelaide, South Australia: Australia & New Zealand winner
• Farhanu, PT Marsh, Jakarta Indonesia: Asia winner.

“These two inspiring young people are sure to make a great impression on the future of our industry,” said Mr Peter Caldwell Deloitte Partner and ANZIIF awards auditor who presented the two with their Peter Corrigan International Exchange awards on a star studded evening at the Sydney Hilton.

The sold out event of the who’s who of the insurance industry of more than 700 was loud in its applause for the winners.

Andre Levey has established himself as a respected Senior Risk Finance analyst for Santos Ltd.  His ambition is to evolve his technical skills in energy insurance, emphasizing offshore development projects and Santos’ global insurance program.  He is an ANZIIF Fellow and CIP. He holds a Graduate Diploma in Insurance, Higher Certificate in Insurance, Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts (Law).

Joan FitzPatrick, CEO of ANZIIF said, “With Andre’s background and insight into the industry, he is well on his way to making his mark and we hope this award will support him.”

Farhanu, Assistant Vice President at the Marine Division of PT. Marsh Indonesia has 11 years experience in the Indonesian insurance industry with the past eight specialising in hull and machinery and protection and indemnity insurance.

Through Distance Learning as an Off Campus Graduate Diploma of Insurance student at Deakin University, Farhanu is pursuing his insurance qualification as a Fellow of ANZIIF.

“Farhanu’s knowledge and skills are in technical, claims, and marketing marine insurance and his ambition is to become an even better marketer for marine insurance products, so we hope this award will go some way to assisting his ambition,” said Mr Caldwell. 

The Peter Corrigan International Exchange Award was established by Trowbridge Deloitte and the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF) to honour Peter Corrigan’s significant contribution to the insurance industry.

Peter Corrigan, former Managing Director of Trowbridge Deloitte, was one of the most respected leaders in the insurance industry. He was just 46 when he unexpectedly died in 2002. Before his untimely death he led the NRMA Group, GIO Australia and AMP General Insurance as CEO before joining Deloitte in 2001.

“Andre Levey and Karhanu have the superior leadership characteristics and industry knowledge needed to make a significant contribution to the Australian and New Zealand and Asia-Pacific insurance industry,” said Mr Peter Caldwell, Deloitte.

“Their hard work and ambition is being rewarded with this kick-start to their already bright futures. This is their opportunity to establish themselves as insurance experts in the region.”

“Both winners have an invaluable opportunity to build on the experience they gain through their exchange programs to make their mark on the industry in the years to come,” Joan Fitzpatrick, ANZIIF CEO said on behalf of the award panel.

Both the award winners will contribute the results of their research to the industry through a series of published articles to be made available later in 2006.
