Toronto, September 5, 2008 – In a major mobilization of talent and goodwill, on September 5, more than 6,000 people from Deloitte will put their regular work on hold to donate their time, skills and experience to supporting non-profit organizations in their local communities. Deloitte calls it Impact Day.
Now in its fourth year, Impact Day is a national volunteer service day, held to celebrate the firm’s year-round commitment to workplace volunteerism and community involvement.
Deloitte volunteers participate in hundreds of projects with hundreds of community-based non-profit organizations nationwide. Some of these are one-day projects, while many others are kick-offs or continuations of longer-term endeavours. The projects range from landscaping and tree-planting, to sorting food and painting, to the contribution of business skills to help organizations deal with operational and financial challenges.
Deloitte partner and Impact Day leader, Valerie Chort, says, “We believe that the most valuable thing we can contribute to these vital Canadian non-profit organizations is our time. Helping these agencies improve and become stronger through the focus we can bring on Impact Day is the most lasting contribution we can make to our community.”
