Toronto, October 24, 2007 — Canada’s prowess as a wireless technology hotbed is on display today as Deloitte announces the first-ever Deloitte Wireless Fast 50, a ranking of the fastest-growing wireless companies based on fiscal year revenue growth over five years (2002-2006).

Three Ontario-based companies broke through the top 10, with BTI Systems Inc. ranking fourth alongside Tira Wireless Inc. (16,610% growth), and MyThum Interactive Inc. ranking sixth (13,900% growth). A total of 13 Canadian companies made this inaugural top 50 ranking.

"It’s not surprising to see such strong rankings given Canada’s history of wireless innovation and leadership,” said John Ruffolo, National Leader, Technology, Media & Telecommunications Industry Group, Deloitte. “The increasing influence of wireless technology on lifestyles and business models is resulting in the emergence of new wireless sectors that position Canadian companies well to become global leaders in these rapidly evolving wireless sectors.”

Ruffolo noted that global leaders such as Research In Motion (ranked #34 on the Deloitte Wireless Fast 50 and #336 on the Deloitte Technology Fast 500) have left tremendous legacies in terms of talent and infrastructure. Many of the Canadian companies included in this ranking were also recognized in the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 in September, a ranking of the country’s 50 fastest-growing technology companies and Canada’s pre-eminent technology awards program.

Deloitte Wireless Fast 50 award winners were announced yesterday as part of the CTIA Wireless I.T. and Entertainment 2007 conference in San Francisco. Satellite technology pioneer SIRIUS Satellite Radio (NASDAQ: SIRI) secured the top ranking at 79,060% growth, with U.S.-based SkyBitz (40,314% growth), and TeleNav (16,666% growth) rounding out the top three companies. Earlier in the day, SIRIUS also earned top billing when it was named the fastest-growing North American technology company (79,060% growth) in the prestigious Deloitte North American Technology Fast 500 ranking.

Ontario and British Columbia are wireless hotbeds
The wireless hotbeds of Ontario and British Columbia were recognized for having innovative companies and pockets of talented employees, as they were well represented in the new wireless ranking. The Ottawa region is home to five of the ranked companies (BTI Systems Inc., DragonWave Inc., Bridgewater Systems, EION Inc., and SkyWave Mobile Communications Inc.), four are from the Greater Toronto Area (Tira Wireless Inc., MyThum Interactive Inc., Redline Communications Inc. and AirIQ Inc.), one is from Waterloo (Research In Motion), and three are from British Columbia (WebTech Wireless Inc., Tranzeo Wireless Technologies Inc. and Ascalade Communications Inc.). Collectively, these Canadian companies combine for an average growth rate over five years of 4,195%.

Trends driving wireless
As a group, the 2007 Deloitte Wireless Fast 50’s extraordinary growth rate reflects a number of underlying trends:

• Wireless voice connections are surpassing wired connections: Wireless device usage is surpassing that of land lines. Sixty percent of voice calls are now made using wireless connections, often within a few feet of an available land line.
• More than just voice communications: People are increasingly using wireless mobile devices for more than just voice communication. They use them as personal devices and incorporate them into their lifestyles, leading to new business opportunities.
• Consumer mobility is driving business disruption: Wireless technology is a key enabler of a mobile, un-tethered world. This mobility is changing how people work, communicate and think about entertainment, which in turn is disrupting business models.

Five Canadian companies cracked the top 20
The strength of the Canadian wireless industry is exemplified by the wide range of wireless sectors in which Canadian Wireless Fast 50 companies compete:

• #4 (Tied) - BTI Systems Inc. enables wireless carriers to distribute data to end-users through its fibre optic microWDM solutions. With text messaging, video clips and other data shared on wireless devices, the mobile Internet is straining infrastructure and bandwidth.
• #4 (Tied) - Tira Wireless Inc. provides developers and publishers with tools to productize and bring content to the mobile market. Tira Jump 2008, its flagship mobile development and deployment platform, encourages code re-use and broad collaboration using a Jumplet™ component model.
• #6 - MyThum Interactive Inc. powers mobile strategies using a comprehensive toolkit that includes text messaging, interactive television, rich content, interactive voice response and promotion through out-of-home digital media.
