An Academy for UK public company board directors has been launched by Deloitte today.

The Academy, which is a response to the increasing demands on directors of UK public companies, will provide access to a comprehensive programme of technical training, support and guidance across a wide range of management and governance issues relevant to business leaders. 

The Deloitte Academy provides a curriculum which is customised to the specific needs of directors based on their role and company profile, delivered in a dedicated purpose-built facility. 

Martin Eadon, Deloitte’s Chief Operating Officer, commenting on the launch, said “Business leaders are currently facing an unprecedented volume of change, and it is the pace and complexity of change which is particularly challenging and especially so for those who manage and govern our public companies. These changes are accompanied by heightened regulatory scrutiny and a greater focus on accountability to shareholders. 

“It is vital to the competitiveness of UK business that directors are able to deal with these changes effectively.  They are responding to this challenge by investing more time to understand their obligations and to ensure they are able to discharge their responsibilities appropriately.  Our response is to support them with the Deloitte Academy.

“Through the Academy directors will have access to the deep technical expertise and breadth of practical experience of Deloitte on issues of specific relevance to them. The business of Deloitte is to deliver high quality professional services to our clients, but we are making this significant investment because we also recognise our wider responsibility to contribute to the effectiveness of UK business,” Mr Eadon added.

The Academy, which will be free to members, will be open from 14 November with the full programme commencing in January 2006.
