Deloitte (Deloitte & Touche LLP UK) has today announced the sale of the Prophet™ system to SunGard. Prophet™ is an integrated suite of actuarial systems providing a range of advanced facilities for profit testing, valuation and model office work. It is used by over 500 insurance companies worldwide.

Commenting on the sale Jan Kamieniecki, head of Deloitte’s actuarial and insurance practice said: “"We are very pleased to have found a good home for Prophet in SunGard and are confident that they will continue to enhance the solution and meet the growing needs of its global client base. This transaction, whilst primarily driven by regulation, represents a key step in our evolution away from being a narrow actuarial firm towards our rightful place at the very core of Deloitte's multitude of offerings for the financial services sector. "In parallel, the issues facing our clients increasingly straddle traditional industry boundaries and require a range of professional competencies; as a multidisciplinary firm we are best placed to help."

The terms of the transaction are not being disclosed. Approximately 35 Deloitte staff and one partner in the UK will be transferring to SunGard in Chertsey.

“Stringent compliance issues have created a new demand for market participants to embrace technology solutions,” said Gavin Lavelle, president of SunGard’s Sherwood Systems business unit. “Through the acquisition of Prophet and by continued expansion of our full range of solutions, SunGard is underlining its commitment to help the insurance industry meet customer demands and maintain its competitive edge. We are pleased to welcome Prophet’s customers to SunGard and look forward to expanding our services.”
