Deloitte, the business advisory firm, has selected the NSPCC and Cancer Research UK as its national charity partners for 2008 and 2009, following a vote by more than 5,300 of its UK employees. Staff voted for one health and medical charity and one welfare charity, based on a shortlist of eight of each drawn up after nominations by Deloitte employees.

Announcing the result, Deloitte’s Director of Community Investment, Richard Stone said: “This is a fantastic response by our people and demonstrates just how important our charity partnerships are for the firm.

“We are looking forward to working with the NSPCC and Cancer Research UK which are two of the UK’s leading charities. We’re planning to raise more than £1m for them during the next two years, supporting their vital work, through fundraising and payroll giving, and there will also be opportunities for our people to get involved through volunteering and providing professional support.”

NSPCC Deputy Director of Fundraising, Tim Hunter said: “Without the support of partners like Deloitte and their staff we would not be able to continue our work with vulnerable children and young people who really need our help. Together with Cancer Research UK, the NSPCC is looking forward to the next two years working with Deloitte’s truly committed staff on a range of exciting fundraising initiatives.”

Paul Farthing, Corporate Partnerships Director at Cancer Research UK said; “Cancer Research UK is really delighted to have been chosen, along with the NSPCC, to be one of Deloitte’s charity partners for 2008/09.  We are excited about the opportunity of working with Deloitte’s passionate staff over the next two years to make this partnership a great success.  The money raised will help fund the vital research needed to beat cancer, and save more lives”

Richard Stone added: “Deloitte’s partnership with the British Heart Foundation and Leukaemia Research over the past two years has been an outstanding success and we’re going to build on that success going forward with our new charities.”

By way of recognition for the support that was given to the other short listed charities, Deloitte will be making a separate donation of £1,000 to each of the unsuccessful candidates in this year’s vote.
